Last night a friend sent me a link to a YouTube video by Byrna pistol in which they reply to my critique of their OC pistol product. Their video was apparently posted in August 2023, but as I said I’ve just become aware of it.
I wish they’d brought it to my attention in a timely manner as I would have loved to have replied to their reply in real time, but I still haven’t acquired my time machine, so I’m going to live watch it with all of you today.
Also, it turns out there are two pistols–not sure I can live stream both today, so this may end up being a Part 1/Part 2 as their videos are.
Finally, I’ve not yet seen either video, so I’ll be watching it cold along with all of you.
I think I did only these two previous shows on Byrna, though I likely mentioned them in passing in other shows:
Gun-Shaped OC Spray: A Clever Idea, or A Good Way to Get Yourself Shot? (Oct. 14, 2021)
You’ll need to scroll down to get to the Byrna segment, as there are several videos in that Oct. 2021 post.
Another Bad Product Idea From Byrna? (July 17, 2023)
I’m on your side of this issue Andrew. I would not recommend their product. It could get someone using it killed. Kent Potter
I’ve been saying that since I first saw the Byrna. Thanks for highlighting this sir!!
Not sure what the use case is where regular OC would not perform as well as the BYRNA. If you are worried about distance, get one of the larger, ~2 oz., canisters. A bit big for my EDC, but they shoot a stream really far and they are a lot smaller than the BYRNA. AND it doesn’t look like a gun.

Byrna has been spending a great deal of their marketing budget with on-line influencers. Folks who do not understand self-defense law nor the real life risks while also being concerned about using firearms will take this up like a firehose. It will take one publicized incident to change this. I will bring my concerns up at next months police district community meeting.
I think they are hyper focusing on 1 aspect of your critique, the are not fairly addressing even that.
