VIDEO: Importance of Having Non-Deadly Tools In Your Self-Defense Tool Kit

Hey folks,

Below is another of the video clips resulting from Glen Bland’s interview of yours truly–it’s a short one, less than 3 minutes. This one covers the importance of having non-deadly force tools as part of your self-defense tool kit, and the dangers in relying solely on the gun as your only self-defense tool option. As they say, not every problem is a nail:

I hope you enjoy this brief clip, and as always if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask right here. Don’t forget to also take a moment and check out Glen’s Self Defense Digest web site.

VIDEO: US Senate Stand-Your Ground Hearings, Sen. Graham (R-SC) Shows Up (10/29/13)

Hey folks,

Here’s “Republican” Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) showing up at the Stand-Your-Ground hearing in the Senate. He kinds of meanders around for 10 minutes. His only accomplishment, which I presume was inadvertent, is to set up Dr. John Lott’s knock-out punch on the childish nonsense spouted by Prof. Sullivan of Harvard and Attorney LaBahn.

The only real gold in this clip is at about the 10:30 point when Dr. Lott steps in, but you need to view the earlier portion of the video to truly enjoy Dr. Lott’s dispensation of those intellectual children.

VIDEO: US Senate Stand-Your Ground Hearings, Rep. Gutierrez (D-IL) (10/29/13)

Hey folks,

Here’s my first video post of yesterday’s Senate hearing from one of the anti-self-defense contingent (other than, of course, Sen. Durbin, who called the meeting), US Representative Gutierrez.

It’s pretty much all Progressive nonsense. The only really notable part is where Gutierrez says he is pushing legislation to ban inexpensive guns–presumably the only guns affordable enough for poor people to purchase in defense against criminal predation. Guess Gutierrez hates poor innocent people.

VIDEO: US Senate Stand-Your Ground Hearings, Senator Cruz, Follow-Up (10/29/13)

Hey folks,

More Ted Cruz goodness–these are follow-up comments, after the various witnesses brought to testify in the hearing had completed their prepared remarks:

In particular he notes that then-Senator Obama voted for self-defense immunity laws in Illinois before he was elected to higher office. Cruz also jabs at Sen. Durbin’s efforts to target ALEC and chill free speech. Durbin’s hissy-fit in response can be seen at about the 8:20 mark, telling the audience “don’t take my word for it, take the word of the NAACP.” Haha. “Racism!!11!”, the ultimate refuge of the coward. 🙂

VIDEO: Self-Defense Attorney Andrew Branca: The Reality and Politics of "Stand Your Ground"

Here’s another video clip from the lengthy interview of yours truly by Glen Evans, of Warrior Men and Self Defense Digest.

Here we discuss the legal realities of “Stand Your Ground”, and distinguish between the tactical application of “Stand Your Ground” on the one hand and self-defense immunity laws on the other–two very different legal constructs that are two often incorrectly conflated.

[UPDATE: Sorry, folks, this video seems to have disappeared off Youtube.]

Stand Your Ground: The “New” Self-Defense Doctrine That’s 136 Years Young

Much has been made lately of the self-defense legal doctrine of Stand-Your-Ground, mostly for political purposes unrelated to any actual legal application of the doctrine (for more on this, see here: Stand-Your-Ground: Gun Control Zombies Exploit Grieving Black Community).

Those denouncing Stand-Your-Ground characterize it as something “new,” a misguided initiative adopted in recent years by state legislatures that has now been clearly demonstrated to have profoundly negative unexpected consequences. “Why, under Stand-Your-Ground you can shoot and kill someone just because! And it’s totally legal!”

This has become the common refrain of the pro-thug crowd who now begrudgingly concedes that Zimmerman had to be acquitted based on the facts and the law of the case–but the problem, they say, is not the thug, but the law.

For my take on this misperception, and the force driving it, take a look at my morning post at Legal Insurrection:

LOSD2 SEMINAR ALERT

Andrew is currently in the process of planning his Fall 2013 Seminar Tour. This time he’ll be traveling from Boston, down the East coast, and then west to East Texas. Planned stops include (1) the Quantico area in Virginia, (2) Columbia, SC, (3) Atlanta, GA, (4) Houston, TX, (5) San Antonio, TX (6) Austin, TX (7) Dallas, TX, then back to Houston and the return trip back to Boston (with similar stops on the way home). Specific dates are being hashed out as I talk with groups interested in hosting seminars, but the trip will definitely be built around the Gun Rights Policy Conference being held in Houston, TX on September 27, 28, 29–so, which I am attending, so plan on the week before and the week after as likely seminar dates. Anyone interested in hosting or attending a seminar anywhere along that route, please contact me directly via the contact form on my blog to get more information.
